Ranger Challenge

Ford Ranger (Photo credit: Ford Motor Company)The latter part of 2011 sees the launch of Ford’s new Ranger and to mark the occasion, Ford is running a competition where one lucky person will win the all-new Ranger.

Members of the public are invited to enter the competition by submitting what they believe to be the ultimate challenge for the all-new Ranger, with three lucky finalists being selected to put the truck through its paces in tough real world situations.

Considering most South Africans could claim that their “bakkies/trucks” form part of their cultural heritage, I am sure there will be a fair number of people chomping at the bit for the new Ranger, and hey if there is a free one up for grabs, mass bakkie hysteria may ensue.

“We want to show exactly what the all-new Ranger can do so we’re putting it in the hands of the people who know best how to test the car to its limits,” said Ben Pillay, Ford Marketing Manager.

An all-new Ranger will be handed over to each of the three finalists for a period of ten days. During this time, each of the finalists will carry out their nominated challenge, which will be captured in a two-minute video clip.

Footage of each finalist’s challenge will then be uploaded to www.fordrangerchallenge.co.za  for the general public to vote on throughout October and November 2011.

The winner, to be announced in November 2011, will be the finalist who would have received the greatest number of public votes. The winner’s prize will be a new Ford Ranger 3.2 TDCi 4×2 Manual XLT Double Cab.

A brave move on Fords part, I mean it would be rather embarrassing if the Ranger got stuck in a ditch during the competition. Ford must be very confident about the Rangers ability which will be a welcomed addition to the South African bakkie culture.

We will keep you updated on the Ranger as and when more information becomes available. Anyone with pictures of a previous adventure on tough terrain, or other bakkies which haven’t fared so well on a harsh bit of road, are welcome to send them through to DriveRSA.

I think the ultimate challenge for the new Ford Ranger will be to complete the Baboons pass in Lesotho, one of the most difficult and challenging passes in Africa.
