One Path Africa

One Path AfricaOne continent, one car, a group of young people, the open road, an adventure with one goal – bringing Africa together.

One Path Africa is hoping to embark on a campaign across Africa to address a number of issues facing the youth of the continent; The ever-increasing pandemic of HIV/AIDS (Prevention & Care), a lack of information on other health related-issues and poverty. They are One Path Africa.

The project is seeking to provide support for the major concerns in our continent from one young person to another. They hope to do this by engaging their fellow Africans through entertainment, sport, personal debates and interactions – leaving behind a glimpse of hope, capable minds as well as an energized community.

They plan to take a road trip, driving from Cape Town, South Africa to Cairo, Egypt, stopping in remote villages, towns and major cities on the continent. The objective is to unite the youth of Africa, provide a platform for children to play and learn, do community development programs and raise awareness HIV/AIDS and hopefully strive towards the millennium development goals of The United Nations.

This will be achieved by engaging the youth across the continent in meaningful dialogue and teaching life values like critical thinking, respect, tolerance, problem solving, team work without resorting to violence and empower youth to think globally, act locally and share their ideas through the universal language of sport and physical activities like , Drama and Dance. The team will use recreational activities to educate youth about healthy lifestyles and positive social skills and promote community development.

They plan to achieve these objectives by:

– stopping at as many remote villages (main focus), cities and town as possible.
– visiting schools, community centres and youth institutions
– teaching life skills
– promoting healthy living and positive social skills
– creating awareness of global issues
– conducting talks on understanding, preventing and mobilizing others on HIV and AIDS
– co-ordinating HIV/AIDS Home-based care programmes
– encouraging youth to think globally, act locally and share their ideas through the universal language of sport and physical activities.
– engaging with media in interviews with local radio stations, newspapers and television stations.
– steering the youth in the right direction.
– facilitating talks on Moral degeneration.

There are hosts, ushers and translators that will be met along the way as well as local radio stations, newspapers and some TV stations who will interview the team during their trip. Of course DriveRSA are behind them all the way and will be covering their trip step by step.

Whilst the team currently has some sponsors they are awaiting a vehicle sponsor. The vehicle has to be comfortable enough to endure a year-long trip across Africa, and rough and tough enough to meet the challenge of Africa’s deserts, bush and rural roads.

Drive RSA would like to open the discussion on which vehicle would best suit the team? And if any of our deep pocketed readers are willing and able to help, please visit www.onepathafrica.co.za for more information.

    Which Land Rover?

Ya its quite a similar concept to Kinsley’s trip…just a slightly different mission I guess. Also One Path are giving out water purification tablets as oppose to mosquito nets.

I don’t know the exact model, but was a toyota of sort. HUGE! And it had driven from some European country down to Cape Town, had area on top where the tent was on a metal base. But how many people will you be travelling with? And this article states TWO cars, is that correct?

I have the Fortuner and recommend they use that. EXCELLENT car for its value. Its comfortable and reliable. And if there is ever a problem, it can be sorted anywhere in Africa.

My choices of epic off-roaders are the following to meet their journey needs:

    • Land Rover Defender
    • Jeep Wrangler Sahara
    • Toyota Fortuner

Big ups guys – God bless!

Actually that Jeep isn’t the worst recommendation. It is really good off road. Only problem is reliability and if it breaks down (probably will) parts will be hard to find.

Thats right Miles, I went and had a look at it, at Jeep, just came short of driving it, and it looked very fragile. Best bet, I’d say is the Defender, strong and reliable. Comfort may be the downside to it though.

Ok guys, i agree with those who wish our team a comfortable journey, but safety is first and getting there and back is the main focus, so i’m leaning more towards the jeep wrangler – sahara that is, as my 1st choice. Jeep has been known for its keep on goin attitude and ability since war times when it was 1st introduced. Altho i’m not sure about parts incase of a break down along the way, but that goes for every other choice too. land Rover defender 110CSW, another offroader proper. Toyota land crusier 200 has comfort and offroad in one package. But the hilux will do equally if u dnt want too much of a compromise on comfort.

In all these vehicles i think whats equally important is the insurance Cover. insurance might cover accidents and theft but roadside assistance is a must have. Also some insurers dont cover cross borders or only cover southern africa. 4×4 insurance is a specialised product, differing from standard motor insurance or even that of high performance cars. It is therefore advised that the team look for a specialised 4×4 cover.

Clearly we are behind u 1 path. U make us proud to be called Africans
